Public Administration Select Committee
Following the elections for the posts of Select Committee Chair on Wednesday 9 June 2010, I was elected by the House of Commons to be the Chair of the Public Administration Select Committee.
The Public Administration Select Committee examines the quality and standards of administration within the Civil Service and scrutinizes the reports of the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman. You can keep up-to-date on my work with the committe under the 'Bernard in Parliament' section of this website, or alternatively, you can click HERE to view the House of Commons Public Administration Select Committee website.
As former Shadow Secretary of State for Defence and a former member of the House of Commons Defence Select Committee, I take a keen interest in defence matters, in particular NATO, European defence and UK commitments abroad. The Defence Select Committee, which I served on from 2006-2010, examines the activities of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces, looking at everything from operations in Afghanistan to provision of Armed Forces housing. The committee questions ministers, senior officers, civil servants, academics and members of the defence industry and produce regular reports to the House of Commons.
