Jenkin calls for UK to opt out from EU criminal justice policies

Bernard Jenkin MP has signed a letter from 102 MPs to the Daily Telegraph  (6th February) calling on the Government to exercise the UK's opt-out from EU crime and justice legislation.  The letter also expresses concerns over the European Investigation Order and the proposed European Public Prosecutor.

Local MP Bernard Jenkin has joined with 105 other MPs from the four largest political parties represented in the House of Commons and written to the Prime Minister urging a reduction in the amount of subsidy given to onshore wind.

Jenkin gives lecture at LSE on the work of PASC

Bernard Jenkin MP, Chairman of the Public Administration Select Committee (PASC), gave a lecture at the London School of Economics on the work of PASC on 31st January.  Mr Jenkin highlighted PASC's push for greater leadership on reforms and for more strategic thought at the heart of government.

Bernard Jenkin MP has warned that other EU states which have signed the new fiscal union treaty are bypassing the UK's veto by seeking to use EU institutions without the UK's consent.

During a House of Commons debate on defence held by the Backbench Business Committee on Thursday 26th January, Bernard Jenkin MP stated “it is time to think bravely and boldly”.

Mr Jenkin argued that "the strategic defence and security review is having a significant long-term impact on the UK’s defence posture and on our ability to deter aggression" and that "without money, we must start thinking".

Jenkin warns against splitting Cabinet Secretary and Head of Civil Service roles

The Public Administration Select Committee (PASC), chaired by Bernard Jenkin MP, has published a new report warning that changes at the top of the civil service "could lead to weaker leadership and disperse power at a critical time of change in government."  The role of Cabinet Secretary is going to be split from the role of Head of the Civil Service, which will be taken up by the permanent secretary of a government department.
