Bernard is campaigning to make Manningtree Station more accessible to elderly and disabled commuters. His request comes after the Government committed to drastically increase funding for rail improvements across the country.
Bernard said, “The Government’s announcement of an extra £9 billion for line and station upgrades between 2014 and 2019 is good news. It is important that the Greater Eastern Main Line is not left out of this financing, as it has been in the past”.
“One essential improvement I have been campaigning for is the need to make Manningtree Station accessible to commuters with impaired mobility. Manningtree is one of the major stations on the Greater Eastern Main Line and commuters from the Harwich line are regularly expected to change platforms, sometimes in a rush, to make a connecting train to London. I will be collecting signatures with the local WI prior to the next funding window opening and will deliver the petition to Parliament.”
