As the year starts to wind down, today was a really good reminder of just how much is going on in Harwich and how many people are quietly getting on with making things work.
I spent some time at the Alma pub who have agreed to be my point of contact for pubs in Harwich and I plan to write to the Chancellor, so their concerns are properly heard.
It was also great to pop into the RNLI coffee morning to say hello and take a moment to appreciate the work they do to keep our coast safe for swimmers and sailors.
A visit to CVST was a real highlight. They do amazing work supporting volunteers from Jobcentre Plus, helping people become more employable and supporting a wide range of groups. Even when they can’t directly help, they make sure people are signposted in the right direction which makes such a difference.
The library renovation is also brilliant, with new classrooms upstairs and groups running throughout the year, including natter days that bring people together. I even signed up for my own library card!
I dropped into a new local coffee shop that’s already expanding its savoury menu and teaming up with a local bakery, always great to see local businesses supporting each other.
I also visited the Post Office, now under new management and incredibly busy as the winter season ramps up. Seeing it in action really makes you appreciate the work posties do. If you see your postie please remember to be kind, and don’t forget to say thank you!
One of those days that leaves you feeling proud of the community we have here!
