Residents of West Mersea know all too well that the current GP practice building is too small and outdated. The GPs do a tremendous job providing care to the island’s residents but they need a bigger building. Despite much hard work by the practice and local campaigners, this has not yet come to fruition.
We came close to a new surgery building previously, but it slipped through our fingers and now it is even more important that we secure a new, larger and more modern practice building.
The Government must provide clarity over the future of NHS estates to end any uncertainty, and more support is required to make a larger practice that can meet the island’s needs a reality. I am working closely with the surgery itself and with local stakeholders, including the new NHS South Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), with this goal in mind.
